Sugilite

Sugilite is a rare silicate mineral that was first discovered in 1944 in South Africa. It is purple in color, and sometimes ranges to pink tones. Purple is the rarest color for minerals to have and Sugilite is one of the few naturally purple stones. Sugilite is found near iron sources, and was originally considered scrap by miners until one miner recognized its value due to its bright purple tone and popularized the gem.
