Howlite

Howlite is a unique mineral found in ancient gypsum-rich evaporite deposits.  The crystals two in mottled, irregular cauliflower-like masses and exhibits “Osteosis”- a bone-like luster.  When cut, black to gray matrix veins are visible and create spiderweb-like structures which greatly resembles turquoise. This derives in Howlite’s popular gem name, “White Buffalo Turquoise”.
