Black Tourmaline

Schorl, better known as Black Tourmaline is a fine, black and lustrous mineral that grows in prismatic columns.  This crystal is used in X-ray machines, LEDs, transistors as well as beauty products included hair straighteners! This is due to a natural phenomena Tourmaline exhibits called Pyroelectricity- the ability to heat a crystal and create a temporary electric charge within it.  Black Tourmaline is mined commercially in Brazil but can be found in remote areas of New England, including Maine- where Tourmaline is the state gem!

Metaphysical Properties

Like other black stones, Schorl (Black Tourmaline) is a great stone of protection from unwanted, negative energies.  It’s best use however is grounding emotionally scattered feelings.  A restless mind and body should keep Black Tourmaline nearby  to be used when feeling anxious, troubled or if you are having negative thoughts/feelings.  As its physical properties are mentioned from the other side of this card, Black Tourmaline is pyroelectric crystal.  Hold your crystal tightly when feeling these emotions and permit for these feelings to be absorbed into it.  This will help you feel lighter as the crystal acts like a sponge, absorbing the negativity.  Overtime, the stone may lose these charged emotions so it is best to be cleansed frequently- especially if used daily in jewelry or in pocket stone form.  Keep Black Tourmaline at the foot of your bed (underneath is okay too) and it will pull all the unwanted feelings and thoughts from your day as you sleep!
