Our Guarantee

Village Silversmith prides itself on its unique and hand-crafted jewelry. This is why anything VS makes, or the artisans we represent, is guaranteed against defects in materials or craftsmanship. Should an item fail at any time due to a defect in its construction or metal, we will repair or replace it at no charge. If it cannot be repaired or replaced, store credit may be given. The amount of this credit is chosen on a case by case basis. Any item that is machine made will be guaranteed for thirty (30) days. These things include, but are not limited to, chains, bracelets and rings. If something needs to be repaired after this thirty day period, the customer will be responsible for the repair cost.Fashion Jewelry is guaranteed for seven (7) days. These items are affordable and should be worn and enjoyed! But, because fashion jewelry is not made with sterling silver, inevitably they will show permanent wear and will need to be replaced.

Although well-made jewelry can last for years without incident, precious metals do abrade over time. Our guarantee does not protect against excessive wear, abuse or loss. If an item requires repair due to excessive wear or damages caused by the customer, a repair fee will be charged. Repair costs are determined on a case-by-case basis by one of our silversmiths; and before anything is repaired, the customer will be made aware of the repair cost. It will then be up to the customer to accept the fee and allow the item to be fixed.

Jewelry is not maintenance-free. We strongly encourage you to bring in your jewelry once a year for a complimentary cleaning and inspection. At that time, we can assess the condition of your jewelry and recommend any repairs before further damage or loss occurs. At your time of purchase, all items will be inspected to ensure perfect quality.

Return Policy

Sterling Silver returns may be made within 30 days, accompanied by a receipt, with no signs of wear, for an exchange or refund.Fashion jewelry returns may be made within 7 days, accompanied by a receipt, with no signs of wear, for an exchange or refund. No returns/exchanges after 7 days. Rock, mineral & fossil returns may be made within 7 days, accompanied by a receipt, without any damage, for an exchange or refund. No returns/exchanges after 7 days. Sterling silver returns may be made after 30 days, accompanied by a receipt, with no signs of wear, for store credit only. ALL Returned items must be accompanied by the original packaging. Custom designed merchandise and/or any merchandise altered in any way cannot be returned. Returns of cash purchases over $200, will receive a check by mail within seven (7) days of the return date. All other refunds will be issued in the original tender of the purchase.

Online purchase returns may be made within 30 days with no signs of wear, for an exchange or refund. You must ship the item back to us (Village Silversmith will provide a return label via email to cover return shipping costs) for inspection in the original packaging with a copy of your invoice included. Upon arrival we will decide if a refund is issued or if the item will be returned to you. You may return web store items in any Village Silversmith store with a copy of your order confirmation or invoice. Custom designed merchandise and/or any merchandise altered in any way cannot be returned.

Security Policy

Your payment and personal information is always safe. Our Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software is the industry standard and among the best software available today for secure commerce transactions. It encrypts all of your personal information, including credit card number, name, and address, so that it cannot be read over the internet.

Holiday Return Policy

All holiday gifts must be returned or exchanged by January 24, 2016. They must show no signs of wear, be in the original packaging, and be accompanied by a receipt. Please see our general return policy for all other return information.

Layaway Policy

Layaway’s must total $100 or more and require 20% down. Monthly payments must be made to keep the layaway active. After 6 months of inactivity, the amount paid will be forfeited. Cancellation of a layaway will result in store credit for the existing deposit(s) only. There will be no cash back.Payments may be made in any VS store, via credit card over the phone or on our website. No more than one item can be placed on layaway, per customer.

Privacy Policy

We respect and are committed to protecting your privacy. We may collect personally identifiable information when you visit our site. We also automatically receive and record information on our server logs from your browser including your IP address, cookie information and the page(s) you visited. We will not sell your personally identifiable information to anyone.

Jewelry Care

Cleaning Silver Jewelry

We recommend using a silver cream or anti-tarnish polish to remove oxidation from silver. The brand that we have found to be one of the best is Wright’s. To clean silver with Wright’s;
1) Wet Jewelry with warm water
2) Apply cream with provided sponge, removing tarnish
3) Once tarnish is removed, rinse silver with warm water

Cleaning Stones in Jewelry

The majority of stones will not be harmed by Wright’s silver cream. However one should avoid prolonged exposure of any organic stones to chemicals, including bleach. The following organic stones should be cleaned with a mild soap and warm water;

  • Turquoise
  • Coral
  • Pearls
  • Amber

All metals should be kept away from chlorine and bleach; this includes swimming pools.

Shipping Info

Village Silversmith ships USPS priority mail from 1-3 days within the date of purchase. Please note with order if signature is required at delivery.

Domestic shipping fees for gift certificates start at $5.00 and rise with number of certificates. Domestic shipping fees for web orders start at $7.00 for jewelry and rise depending on the number of items. Domestic shipping fees for minerals and fossils are based on weight and start at $10.00. International shipping fees for gift certificates start at $10.00 and rise with number of certificates. International shipping fees for web orders start at $15.00 for jewelry and rise depending on the number of items. International shipping fees for minerals and fossils are based on weight and start at $15.00. In store shipping and handling starts at $10.00.

For all custom sizing orders, shipping will be delayed two to three weeks additional to the regular shipping and handling time period time. Thank you for your patience as we take care with your item.

Ring Sizing Info

Village Silversmith’s rings can be sized using a laser welder. Our rings can be sized up or down two U.S. ring sizes max, (i.e. from a size 7 to a 9 is ok, from a size 7 to a 10 is not, from a size 8 to a 6 is ok, from a size 8 to a 5 is not). After the re-sizing, the appearance of the band on the ring, may alter slightly. To size the ring, it will take our silversmith approximately 3-5 business days. After completion, please allow 3-5 days for shipping. To change the size of a ring the cost is $30. Please indicate that you would like the ring sized in the add-on “Custom Sizing” box on the individual ring product page and add to cart. Once your order is processed we will then contact you via e-mail (within 1-3 days) with information on an expected ship date.

Custom Work Info

The custom work process starts when you put your faith in the jeweler to bring to life the idea that first came to you. Whether you are looking to have a ring made to propose to that special lady, or a whimsical piece that is reminiscent of a tree house you used to play in as a child. Each custom creation is a unique expression of the individual it is created for.

After an initial consultation to discuss ideas and styles for a piece, our artist will take the information from the initial meeting and create some renderings of design options. A non-refundable design fee of $100 is taken at this time, which will be applied to the final cost of the piece. Once on paper, it is easier to imagine different styles and shapes that will eventually materialize into the finished design.

During the second consultation, the client reviews the renderings and one of the designs is chosen.

The final consultation involves a finished, full scale rendering of the actual piece to be created. Once this final design is approved, a custom agreement is signed and 30% of the total design price is deposited.

A completion date is set, usually between 2-6 weeks from the date of deposit, and the balance is due upon delivery. The working times vary by piece, handcrafting takes time, and quality will not be sacrificed for speed. Custom work is a personalized process working one-on-one with our silversmith. Due to the labor-intensive nature of creating a one of a kind piece of jewelry, pricing starts in the $300 range.

Instagram Policy

INSTAGRAM HOLDS: We allow a grace period of seven days if you have made a previous purchase, in good standing. We value the time of our customers, and want to provide our inventory to all that are interested. All lots and specific cabochons will be integrated into our main stock a week after they are posted.

INVOICING: To make a purchase direct message our account with your preferred email address and the specific post you’re referencing. All orders are processed through PayPal. A PayPal account is not needed – you can pay a PayPal invoice with a debit or credit card. An itemized invoice will be sent to your provided email address. Please pay your balance within 72 hours or forfeit your purchase. If you are unable to pay your balance within that timeframe, send a direct message and we will work with you.

ORDER PROCESSING: We will respond to all direct messages as soon as possible. We don’t have access to our inventory at all times, so please be patient throughout the ordering process. Keep in mind that we are located in the Eastern Standard time zone. We attend trade shows throughout the year (for our show schedule, refer to villagesilversmith.net/events/) and operations while we are on the road will differ from our usual posting and processing.

SHIPPING: Once your invoice is completed we will proceed with setting up shipping. We ship via USPS First Class for both domestic and international orders. If you prefer a different shipping class or system, let us know. PayPal will automatically send you a tracking number for your package, but feel free to contact us if you need more tracking information. Customs fees will occur with international orders, keep these fees in mind when placing your order with us. All orders will be packed safely and securely to ensure safe travels through the Postal Service.

RETURNS: All returns must be made within 7 days of receiving the product. There must be no sign of wear or damage. Original packaging and invoice need to accompany the item(s). Please package returns securely. Once the item(s) are back in our hands, we will inspect again for damages. We will then refund the order accordingly.
In the case of Set/Lot returns, you must send the entirety of the Set/Lot to qualify for a return/refund.

What is a lot? A lot is multiple cabochons or facets sold together for one price. Lots will be sold at our discounted Take All price. Lots cannot be split up – for example if you see one cabochon in a lot that you are interested in you must purchase the entire lot in order to get that cabochon. If you would like us to make a custom lot for you, send us a message – note that in order to get the lot at the Take All price you cannot select specific pieces. If you are selecting multiple specific cabochons or facets of the same material, you will be paying the Select Price.
Select Price vs. Take All Price: Each riker of material is priced at a Select and Take All price. These prices determine your choosing process: if you are hand picking pieces you would be paying the Select Price. If you purchase an entire riker of material, you will pay the discounted Take All price. Take All pricing also applies to our pre-made Lots.
What is a “riker”? A riker is a tray of one material of cabochons or facets set at specific prices. Prices between materials will vary depending on grade, locale, and rarity.
What is “ct”? “Ct” stands for “carat” which is a unit of weight measurement. Most of our materials are priced based on their carat weight, unless specified otherwise. For example, if we say that a material is “$0.50/ct Select” that means that for every carat, you will be paying $0.50.
